Two Weeks Post-Surgery

We have set up a GoFundMe for Dino's veterinary expenses, and we're a little over halfway to our goal! Please consider helping us out.

Hi everyone,

Two weeks post-surgery! This is a big milestone for all of us. Dino finished his medications tonight, and tomorrow he will have his stitches removed and his first round of chemotherapy. We have a long day ahead of us.

I spoke to the oncologist yesterday and she had the results of the biopsy of Dino's leg. She said it was "pretty standard osteosarcoma," and confirmed we still wanted to proceed with chemotherapy (yes). She said she spoke to the surgeon and the surgery team were really happy with how Dino's amputation was healing, so we are good to go ahead with the chemo. Dino will also need a heart ultrasound, as apparently this first treatment can be hard on dogs' hearts, especially for large breeds. We have been told in the past by our local vet that Dino has a healthy heart and other organs, so we are not too concerned.

Dino is doing well getting around the yard. He has started taking a big interest in his stump and stitches, so I think that's a sign that it is time to have them removed. Preventing him from licking has been annoying, as I really don't want to put the cone on him during the day, but we'll do what we must.

We're feeling a little cooped up around here, but we'll see what the surgeon says about starting up more activity after we get the stitches out. We have taken Dino on a couple of car rides to get him some plain TimBits and he definitely enjoyed that.

That's all for today. I'll have a big update tomorrow, I am sure.

A photo of Dino the dog laying on a white dog bed on a wooden deck. He is wearing a green collar.
We often call Dino "the little croissant" and Ben pointed out that without the back leg, he's even more "croissant-shaped than before" and now I can't unsee it.
