Day 3 Post-Surgery, No Sleep, but an Important Milestone

Ben and I are absolutely blown away by the positive response to the GoFundMe for Dino's vet expenses - we have already raised $2000 in 24 hours! That is amazing! We are so grateful for everyone's generosity. Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared the fundraiser, and reached out with kind words. You are literally changing our lives for the better, and we will never be able to thank you enough. I am hopeful that we can raise more. If you're able, please share our GoFundMe and Dino's story.

Dino had another rough night. I think with all the drugs he forgets he is missing a leg and he is startled by the cone collar. I've been "sleeping" (laying on the floor) next to him to support him when he gets up and give him comfort. He wakes up about once an hour and needs to readjust, and I am worried that if he stands up he might fall and if he needs to go out I want to get him out as soon as possible so he isn't uncomfortable. But usually he just needs to move to another spot. We are so, so tired.

But, Dino had a good morning. He pooped! Which is an important milestone, and a huge relief (for him and for us). The vet told us he may not have a bowel movement for 3-5 days after surgery, so pooping on the second morning is really great! After a morning potty, he was very excited for breakfast and took his medications easily. I am very happy to report that we haven't noticed any of the negative side effects of the numerous medications. We also gave him a much needed brushing today. I think the stress from the vet hospital and the surgery has made his shedding go into overdrive. He was basking in the brushies and seemed very relaxed while I was doing it. The bruising at the surgery site is still pretty good too - I am sure the cold compress we're applying 6+ times a day is helping.

Everyone's support and kind words have helped make all of this easier. We are continuing to receive kind messages and well wishes, and Dino had a couple of visitors today. Our friends Chris and Aish stopped by to see the big guy, and very kindly brought us some prepared food. We ate very well today... probably the most food and the healthiest food we've had in over a week. Our bodies definitely needed it. Dino was thrilled to have company and get all of the pets. Our friend Pegah also stopped by this evening. She brought us a pie and brought Dino a new toy - a very cute red shrimp with a squeaker in it. Dino played with it immediately - the first toy he's touched in a while. It was wonderful to see him playful and enjoying himself.

A beautiful bouquet sent by Emma, Megan, and Chelsea.

That's all for today. We're very tired, but very happy with Dino's progress. As always, thanks for reading. We're happy you're here, and grateful for your support.
