It is with great sadness I am letting you know that we said goodbye to Dino on the evening of November 7, 2024. We worked hard to make sure Dino's final days were comfortable and as enriching as they could be within his abilities. We believe that we have made the most compassionate choice, ensuring Dino had dignity and comfort in his final days.
We had Dr. Bonnie and her assistant Evelyn from Sears Animal Hospital come to our home, to ensure our goodbye was as peaceful as possible. We found out the day before that a "family friend" had anonymously paid for the home visit, and that some of the staff at Sears had helped out as well. In the end, the entire home visit, cremation, urn, and glazed paw print were all covered, and there was an overpayment which we opted to donate to another client in need at the clinic. We cannot begin to express our gratitude to whoever the donor was, and to the staff at Sears for all of their help, support, and kind words. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
We are so proud of Dino for everything he accomplished. He was so brave, so strong, and he surprised us at every turn with how well he handled things - even at the end. Dino was full of joy every single day of his 6 years on this Earth, even on the hard days of surgery and chemotherapy.
His ears were big and floppy, his tail long and waggy. He had giant shoulders and a scar on the outer toe of his rear left foot. He travelled to 5 provinces and 3 states, and swam in two of the Great Lakes and the Pacific Ocean. He made everyone smile, and turned heads when we drove through town with his big mug hanging out the window everywhere we went. He loved eating grass and chewing sticks. He made me proud every single day we had together.
Some friends and family have said that they don't know what to say. I know exactly what we can all say: "Good boy," and "Fuck cancer."
We love you Dino. Rest now, Big Fella.
